A Fishy Cinderella Story

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

The next contestant on the fish pageant is Queen Angelfish, a delicate ruler of coral reefs in the Bahamas and Florida. Their life is like a fairy tale as they transition from maid to a queen and then meet their prince charming. Throughout the competition Queen Angelfish will be judged on Appearance, Personality, Class, and Survival Skills.

Glow ups aren't just for people, the juvenile queen angelfish looks nothing like it’s mature self. A younger Queen is a princess so that how the juvenile Queen Angelfish will be referred to from here forth. Princess its a golden yellow all the way from their small beak like mouths to their delicate tail. They have vertical electric blue stripes that cascade down their body and glow when light hits them.

Queen Angelfish has the physique of a Greek goddess compared to their younger selves. Their angelic blue ring atop their head resembles a crown and shows the other fish that they are pure royalty. Those once electric blue stripes fade away and are replaced with golden dots speckling Queen Fish's body. Their main color is a royal blue with splotches of green decorating their face. The only thing Queen Fish keeps from their juvenile form is their golden tail and the royal blue outline of their body. They can even grow to be eighteen inches in length giving them plenty of room to show their style. This gives Queen Angelfish earns a 9.7 in Appearance.

Queen Angelfish dines like royalty eating delicacies like sponge and algae and on special occasions they will splurge for a sea fan and a jellyfish. However, they were not this privileged when they were a princess… As a young-in they served as a maid for the older, wealthier fish. They worked to clean parasites off their employers skin, not only allowed them to have an easy source of food, but also benefiting the health of the larger fish they worked for. Princess grew up in the lows of the coral reef but after working their way up to Queen they rule over the other fish in their domain. Princess had a rough childhood which allowed them to grow into the hardworking individual they are today. Some Queen Angelfish are so strong they go on adventures up to 230 feet below the surface. They are widely regarded as the Cinderella fish because of their rags to riches story. Because of Queen Angelfishes hardworking traits they earn an 8.6 for Personality.

Class is an important trait for a pageant winner and it is important that our Grand Supreme show this valuable quality. While most of our previous contestants lived in harems the Queen Angelfish does not abide by this. Queen Angelfish is often found alone or in a pair. If they are alone, they are most likely very young or their mate has passed on to bluer oceans. Those that travel in pairs are seen to be monogamous and have created long lasting and deep bonds with their Prince Charming. Queen Angelfish believes in and respects the institution of marriage and is committed to their partner. While being dedicated to their partner they are not dedicated to their offspring. The female releases about 10 million eggs into the water and then abandons them. In approximately 15-20 days these eggs will hatch and these Princesses will begin their life of poverty. While the Queen Angelfish does show class in their dedication to their spouse they do abandon their children, this earns them a score of 7.5/10 for Class.

After a tough upbringing on the streets and as a maid they Queen Angelfish has adapted some hardcore survival skills. The bright colors which may stand out in an average background let the Queen Angelfish camouflage in the bright coral reef. Their colors could even be considered dull to the vibrant reef around them. Their body is also very thin and streamline allowing them to escape from predators. They are very agile and would be able to escape through thin crevices their predators can not. As mentioned above they generally eat sponges which are known for being too tough to eat and can cause irritation to the mouth. This is no problem to Queen Angelfish because they just use their overlapping rows of teeth to bite through the sponges and they prevent irritation by secreting a thick mucus onto the sponge before eating it. This allows Queen Angelfish to have a food source ignored by most other species. For these adaptations Queen Angelfish earns an 8.2/10 for Survival Skills.

The elegant Queen Angelfish scored tremendously well in the fish pageant and will offer up stiff competition. They have an impressive physical appearance and an inspiring personality. Their class was lacking in the area of raising their spawn but the judge admires their dedication to marriage. Queen Angelfish’s overall score is an 8.5/10.
